Stand Atlantic's Jurassic Park Ep. (Review)

Stand Atlantic is back and teasing their new album ‘Pink Elephant’ (release date August 7), with the release of their ‘Jurassic Park’ Ep. on 24 June 2020. This new Ep. features the already released singles: 'Hate Me (Sometimes)', 'Shh!', 'Wavelength' and 'Drink To Drown'. PLUS a new song and the current single ‘Jurassic Park’.

It is actually really nice that the last few singles Stand Atlantic have released over the past few months now have a home in the ‘Jurassic Park’ Ep. and the soon to be ‘Pink Elephant’ album in the next month.

Two stand out songs from this Ep. is the new single ‘Jurassic Park’ and ‘Drink To Drown’. ‘Jurassic Park’ is the first song off the Ep. and it’s a really fun song! The lyrics are so quirky and unique. How often do you get to sing about skeletons, dinosaurs and dancing ghosts?

The song ‘Jurassic Park’ is also a very danceable song. The use of guitars, drums, and also lulls in the song, really gives an opportunity the crowd to bop, bounce and clap along to this track.

‘Drink To Drown’ is one of the more stronger songs listed, the fact that it is the last song of the Ep. really makes you want to listen to more (Good Game Stand Atlantic, you’ve got us all hooked!). This song in particular is comparable to a ballad. It’s deep, it’s dramatic and it’s emotional, you really feel like pouring your heart out along with front-woman Bonnie Fraser when she sings. ‘Drink To Drown’ is mostly just vocals and piano, making it a really raw and minimalistic track, which highlights the lyrics and emotional vibrancy of the song.

The 'Jurassic Park' Ep. really is in true Stand Atlantic style and does not disappoint. It has the bounce of ‘Lavender Bones’, the drama of ‘Skinny Dipping’, and that same in-your-face attitude that makes ‘Coffee at Midnight’ so great!

Overall, the Ep. is very vibrant with high energy, and the use of neon colours for the album art really does show the strong and bold presence that ‘Pink Elephant’ is going to have in the music scene. Even the 2019 single ‘Hate Me (Sometimes)' carries this bright visual theme with neon green and pink, and now with the ‘Jurassic Park’ Ep. and ‘Pink Elephant’ album art literally dripping in neon pink, green and bright blue, you can visually see how these singles, Ep. and album all fit together. The tiny pink elephant sitting in the half melted blue face is a pretty cute element too. Cute but tough! Just like Stand Atlantic.
